Gold Coast known as Ghana, located in West Africa has a rich and diverse history spanning thousands of years. Ghana was inhabited by various ethnic groups, including the Gonja, Dagomba and the Akan. The ancient Ghana empire was a powerful trading state that controlled the trans Saharan trade routes. In 1482, the Portuguese established the first European trading post, that is the Elmina Castle, marking the beginning of European Colonization.

Then the Dutch, British and other European powers later established colonies and started trading along the coast. Ghana become a major hub for the transatlantic slave trade. Modern Ghana gained independence on March 6, 1957 from the British Colonial Rule, becoming the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence. Kwame Nkrumah leading Ghana to gain independence became the first President.

Ghana is now a home for over 100 ethnic groups. that is, the Akans, Mossi and the Ewe being the largest ethnic group. Within these ethnic groups comes different dishes such as fufu, banku, rice, ampesie, yam, apkele, tuo zaafi and more. The country is known for its vibrant music, including highlife, afrobeats and azonto. Ancestors are also honored with their traditional music as well. Beautiful festivals celebrated by the various ethnic groups.
